What is the digital divide?

The digital divide refers to a gap in technology skills and knowledge. It describes the separation between people who have IT and the knowledge to use it and those who don’t. Typically, this divide is caused by income, age, ethnicity, or disability.

Those experiencing ‘digital poverty’ are excluded from all the benefits of internet access. Therefore, someone who lacks IT skills or computer hardware will find everyday life much harder.
