The mission of Green Machine Computers
When we reuse computer parts, we prevent the need for something new to be made. Resources go into building computer parts, so the more we can reuse, the better it is for our planet.
As technology enthusiasts, we recognise the significant benefits that computers offer. We believe that every person has the right to access those benefits and that, in this modern age, computers are not a luxury but a necessity.
You and your technology
We’re here to support you and your technology, whether that be through advice, repairs, IT disposal, or sales. Our recycling process shows how a circular economy can excel.
Large corporations that no longer require their old computers but must ensure the data is destroyed appropriately get in touch with us.
We collect this and recycle, refurbish, and redistribute it at a low cost or donate it to charities.
The funds from the refurbished electronics actually pay for the training of the people repairing them. They become certified technicians and can then offer ongoing support for their use.
Award winning IT recycling services
We have been fortunate to win several awards for our work, but that isn’t why we do it. Since Green Machine Computers started in 2011, our goal has always been to help other people with the surplus technology that is being wasted across the country.
Your old devices do good!
Since the organisation began (2011), our goal has always been to support our local community in whatever way we can.
We do this in a number of ways:
- training and development of local NEETs,
- donation of time to support charitable events,
- free hardware and IT support for local schools,
- free IT recycling for schools and charities,
- financial contributions to charitable causes,
- fundraising for charity,
- work experience for ex-military veterans and people with learning difficulties
- apprenticeships
We aim to hire at least one apprentice a year. When choosing our candidates, we usually contact local youth groups and charities. It is essential for us to use any vacancy to improve the prospects of someone who might struggle to find employment.
£150,000+ of technology donated during the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Having always worked closely with local schools, several of them approached us once lockdowns were enforced, pleading for some laptops that the school children could use to study from home. Throughout 2020-2022, our team have partnered with Wiltshire & Dorset Fire and Rescue Service to collect, refurbish and redistribute laptops across the UK. This initiative made a huge difference to the education of local students, who could have easily fallen behind in their studies.
We now donate to charities and non-profit organisations too. Around 1.4 million people in the UK don’t have access to a home computer. We work with charitable organisations across the UK to get reliable technology to disadvantaged individuals.
Why we refurbish and recycle IT
Our main goal is to have a positive impact on the environment. Electronics manufacturing typically involves the use of many chemicals, precious materials, and fossil fuels. By refurbishing and reusing technology that would otherwise go to waste, we are able to prevent pollution caused during the manufacturing or disposal of these products.
In the past five years, Green Machine Computers has decreased CO2 emissions (or equivalent) by 13,500 metric tonnes, which is the environmental equivalent of powering 1,701 homes for one year.
In addition to our environmental efforts, we also aim to assist those who cannot afford technology. We believe that computer access is crucial for numerous daily activities, and we want everyone to be able to enjoy its benefits.
